Have you been looking for an opportunity to give something back to your community and gain personal enrichment at the same time? Nearly 200+ people from the Northeast Philadelphia and Bucks County areas fulfill this same desire each week by volunteering their time at Aria Health.
At Aria Health, volunteers play a vital role in helping the Hospitals to achieve its mission of providing quality service and exceptional care to their community members. Volunteers at the Frankford, Torresdale, and Bucks County Campuses assist staff members in providing services to patients and visitors which otherwise might not be available.
The Volunteer Services Department offers two service programs, one for students and one for adults. Each offers a unique opportunity to enrich your life experience while assisting others. We realize that volunteering is a commitment of your time and is a decision that takes careful consideration. To help you learn more about volunteer opportunities at Aria Health, we've developed the following list of frequently asked questions regarding our volunteer duties and positions.
How much time will I spend?
Most volunteers work at least four hours, one day a week. However, you may also work more than one day a week, if you like. Many volunteer assignments are flexible, and we make every effort to accomodate your schedule by offering day, and when appropriate, evening and weekend hours.
What will I actually do for the Hospital?
There are many choices of assignments open to you. Volunteers are needed to assist in patient service areas, delivering mail, flowers, newspapers, magazines and books. Several assignments help the different nursing staffs with tasks. There are also clerical opportunities open to you in many non-patient areas, such as finance, dietary, and other departmental offices. In addition, you can be assigned to one of our information/concierge desks, assisting visitors with directions and hospital informational brochures or being assigned to asssiting the staff in our Emergency Department, as well as within the Volunteer Services Department.
Will volunteering cost me anything?
Our volunteers are required to wear an identifying smock. There is a small fee for this smock, because it will then become your personal property. We will provide a special patch for your smock also. Your personal transportation to and from the hospital is your own expense.
What type of areas might I work in?
Aria Health offers a wide array of opportunities for volunteers. After completing the interview and orientation process, you can work in many areas and roles throughout the Hospital, including departmental offices, gift shop (at the Bucks County Campus), information/concierge desk, surgical hospitality desk, medical records, physical therapy, radiology, short procedure unit, nursing units, and food and nutrition.
What will I receive in return?
The satisfaction of helping others and knowing that you will make a difference! Our Hospital staff and patients appreciate the value of the gift of you and the tasks you provide. Our appreciation is expressed in many ways, including:
- Free parking
- Wellness Center Privileges
- Task Specific Training
- Cafeteria (Meal) Vouchers
- Health Screenings
- Annual Recognition Dinner
- Hospital Holiday Luncheon
- Hospital Summer Picnic
