Nationally recognized academic medical educator joins the staff of
the largest healthcare provider in Northeast Philadelphia and Bucks County.
Martyn O. Hotvedt, PhD, has recently been named to the position of Chief Academic Officer at Aria Health, the largest healthcare provider in Northeast Philadelphia and Lower Bucks County.
In this role, Dr. Hotvedt will oversee the internship and residency programs offered at Aria Health, which include: Osteopathic Family Practice Residency, Osteopathic Internal Medicine Residency, Osteopathic Emergency Medicine Residency, Osteopathic Combined Internal Medicine/Emergency Medicine, Osteopathic Combined Family Practice/Emergency Medicine, Podiatric Medicine & Surgery Residency, and a variety of affiliated residency programs.
His professional experience includes directing Hospital Corporation of America’s Center for Research and Education, where he worked with Dr. C. Edwards Deming to implement nationwide quality improvement in the healthcare field. He has also served as the President of the Society for Academic Continuing Medical Education, President of the Alliance for Continuing Medical Education, as well as the American Hospital Association representative for the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.
Dr. Hotvedt developed a national model of community-based medical education using the Double Helix of Learning and Improvement to create local learning cultures. He has co-authored numerous publications with physicians and nurses to address innovative medical education and quality issues. He received his PhD in Educational Psychology and Psychometrics from the University of Illinois.
