Emergency Department Expansion and

Renovations Planned at Aria-Frankford

Construction will double capacity at lower Northeast Philadelphia’s only Emergency Department.

Aria Health-Frankford is finalizing plans to construct an additional 8,000 square feet of space that will give its Emergency Department the ability to accommodate 60,000 annual visits, doubling its current capacity.  The anticipated completion date of construction is Spring 2013, with groundbreaking scheduled to occur in late 2011.

“Aria-Frankford currently operates lower Northeast Philadelphia’s only Emergency Department,” said John Quinn, Executive Director of Aria Health’s Frankford Campus.  “Doubling its size and the number of patient rooms is a significant investment not only in our hospital campus, but also in the broader community.”

The $12 million project will renovate and reconfigure the entire Emergency Department, including expansion into areas currently occupied by Aria-Frankford’s Business Office, Physical Therapy and Outpatient Therapy Departments.  As a result, the Emergency Department will double in size and expand its number of treatment rooms from 17, to an estimated 33.

“Although a significant amount of work will occur in and around the Emergency Department over the next few years, patients and guests will receive the same quality care that they have in the past,” said Quinn.

As construction begins, Aria-Frankford’s Physical Therapy and Outpatient Therapy Departments will relocate to an alternate space on campus, adjacent to the hospital.  Additionally, Aria-Frankford’s Business Office, Human Resources and Care Management Departments will move to new spaces throughout the hospital.

Aria Health is the largest healthcare provider in Northeast Philadelphia and Lower Bucks County.  With three leading-edge community hospitals and a strong network of outpatient centers and primary care physicians, Aria upholds a longstanding tradition of bringing advanced medicine and personal care to the many communities it serves.
