Multidisciplinary Breast Evaluation Committee
Radiation oncology, breast surgery, medical oncology, gynecology and other specialties working together
for the patient
A Cross-Disciplinary Group that Teams on the Care Plan for Every Breast Cancer Patient
Aria Health and its Breast Surgery Section, in collaboration with other departments, offer a comprehensive Breast Health Program that involves public education, prevention, screening, annual mammography, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. Care is a truly collaborative effort among cancer disciplines at Aria.
Patients who come to Aria for testing or treatment for breast cancer also benefit from special attention, knowledge, and care that results from the weekly meetings of Aria’s weekly Breast Evaluation Committee. The meeting brings together a full array of cancer specialists to evaluate the case for each individual diagnosed with breast cancer. Launched in 1995, this regular meeting of Aria cancer experts with a special interest in breast seeks to optimize the patient’s care and management.
Patients know that a group of dedicated breast-cancer physicians has conferred over their care and determined the best-available course of treatment.
As part of the Breast Health Program, this multidisciplinary panel of cancer experts reviews each patient's x-rays, mammograms, medical records, and pathology slides, prior to her visit. Conferring surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and other team members identify any additional studies the patient requires, reach consensus on each patient’s condition, and agree on a course of care tailored to each individual’s needs and based on the very latest know-how from all cancer-care disciplines.
At her visit, the patient can consult, all in one day, with medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, and radiation oncologists who share team knowledge of her case. Before she leaves, all of her questions will be answered and treatment recommendations will be made by a consensus of experts. Patients have the confidence of knowing that an experienced, skilled Breast Health Program and Breast Evaluation Committee is now collaborating on their treatment and following them through each phase of care and follow-up.
