Aria’s Chief of Gastroenterology Named President
 
 
of the Philadelphia County Medical Society


Harvey B. Lefton, MD, was installed as the Society’s 151st President on June 9.

Harvey B. Lefton, MD, Chief of Gastroenterology at Aria Health, was installed as the 151st President of the Philadelphia County Medical Society (PCMS) on June 9 at The Rittenhouse Hotel, in Philadelphia, PA.

Dr. Lefton is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and of the Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University.  He completed his internship, his residency in internal medicine, and a fellowship in gastroenterology at The Cleveland Clinic Hospital.  He served as Chief of Gastroenterology at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, and has been a faculty member at Drexel University College of Medicine (formerly MCP/Hahneman School of Medicine) since 1976.

Dr. Lefton is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), the American Gastroenterologic Association (FAGA), the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG), and the College of Physicians of Philadelphia (FCPP). He also serves as President of the Pennsylvania Society of Gastroenterology (PSG) and is the former President of the Medical Staff at Aria Health.

In addition, four Aria Health physicians celebrated their 50th year as members of PCMS - Mara Leyzin, MD; Rajendra N. Seth, MD; Franklin Stein, MD; and Fred Stutman, MD.

PCMS has been representing physicians for more than 160 years as they treat patients, advance science, maintain the standards of the profession, and protect the public health. The Society, a professional membership organization for physicians who live or work in the City of Philadelphia, has a tradition of activism on behalf of practitioners and patients. PCMS provides a common ground for physicians across a range of specialties to discuss health care issues of the day and work for the good of the profession and the public.
