For most of the forms of cancer below, surgery is the primary form of treatment, without which cure is usually not possible. Early diagnosis is key. And, as for any type of surgery - especially complex operations such as these - it is level of experience of the surgeon and the surgical team that makes much of the additional difference in likelihood of success.
Many of the following types of surgery are complicated and difficult. They should be done by a highly qualified surgeon working at a hospital or medical center with an established cancer program. They have also helped many patients to cancer-free survival.
Research & Clinical Trials
As part of The Cancer Center at Aria Health ths - a comprehensive cancer program - the Section on Surgical Oncology uses a complete team approach, through which patients can also benefit from the latest innovations, trials, and experimental forms of care. These are techniques that include new combinations of treatments, available primarily or exclusively at medical centers that participate in research. For multicenter trials, the Cancer Center participates in the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group and the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group, as well as in trials coordinated by the National Cancer Institute. The Aria cancer program also participates in the Jefferson Oncology Group and is a part of the Jefferson Cancer Network.
