Professional Nurse Recognition Program recipients for January 2006

 

Sandra Gallina, RNC, a staff nurse on 2B, the Orthopedic Trauma unit at Torresdale campus, has been awarded Level III recognition. Ms Gallina is the co-chair of the Performance Improvement council of the Nursing Department. Ms Gallina is a community educator by providing a monthly Total Joint Class to prepare patients for their forthcoming operative procedures. She also serves as a preceptor on her unit.

Susan Kunz, RN, BSN, CCRN, is a staff RN in the Intensive Care Unit at Frankford campus; she has received Level III recognition. Ms Kunz has participated in the 2005 Community Fair by providing related information on the risk factors of stroke. After attending a conference on Death and Dying Ms Kunz created a poster presentation and provided her unit with an inservice on the topic. She also serves as a preceptor in the Intensive Care.

Deana Paugh, RN, CCRN, is a staff RN in Intensive Care Unit at the Torresdale campus; she has received Level III recognition. As a member of the AACN, Ms Paugh participated on the Beacon Award application committee. The Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence is presented to outstanding Critical Care units across the U.S. by the AACN. Ms Paugh was assigned to areas of research including end of life issues, pain documentation, and cultural and spiritual needs of the ICU population. Ms Paugh is a BCLS instructor and a speaker for the trauma course presenting the topic of Pelvic trauma.

Stacey Jennifer Prociuk, RN, BSN, is a staff RN in the Cath Lab at Torresdale Campus and has been awarded level III recognition. Ms Prociuk has assisted with the revision of the hospital policy and procedure for the use of an arrow IABP. As a Magnet Champion Ms Prociuk encourages staff involvement, awareness and preparation for Magnet application. She is also a preceptor for her unit.

Michelle Cooper, RNC, BSN, is a staff RN on the Telemetry unit at the Bucks campus; she has been awarded Level III recognition. Ms Cooper is a member of the PI council. She also participates on the Wound Care committee where she inservices nursing staff on updated treatments and protocols and participates in quarterly wound prevalence studies. After attending a Diabetic conference, Ms Cooper shared her information by creating a poster presentation and providing quick reference handouts to staff. Ms Cooper participated in the Community Health Fair by educating the public on Automated External Defibrillators.

Patricia Nichols, RN, BSN, CCRN, a staff RN in the Intensive care unit at Torresdale campus has received Level III recognition. Ms Nichols created a poster presentation on Intra-Abdominal Hypertension and Abdominal Compartment Syndrome. She then educated the Nursing staff and Medical Interns by presenting an inservice on the subject. She has also participated on the Beacon award application committee for the AACN. As a Trauma educator Ms Nichols has taught hypothermia and hyperthermia at the Frankford Hospital Trauma Course.

Angeline E. Doherty, RN, CCRN, a staff RN in the Intensive Care unit at Torresdale campus has received Level II recognition.As a member of the AACN, Ms Doherty participated on the Beacon Award application committee where she has researched and written narratives in hope that the ICU receives this prestigious honor. Ms Doherty has created a poster presentation on the benefits of SEPA and AACN organizations. She has also developed a power point presentation on the topic of Patients that Refuse Blood Transfusions in hope that staff will better understand conservation strategies, religious beliefs and options to treatment with blood products.

Cynthia Rizzo, RN, BSN, CCRN, a staff RN in the Intensive Care Unit at Torresdale has been awarded Level IV recognition. Ms Rizzo is the co-chair of the Resource Council for the Nursing Department. Ms Rizzo as a member on the Beacon Award application committee has researched and written narratives with the intention of acquiring this prestigious honor for the Intensive Care Unit. She has also participated in the Frankford Hospitals Community Health Fair by educating the public about Advanced Directives. She also serves as an extern preceptor for her unit.

Margaret M. Moran, RN, BSN, CNOR, an Operating Room RN at Frankford campus has received Level III recognition. Ms Moran had participated at the Community Health Fair where she had created a poster presentation and handouts explaining the new food pyramid . She was associated with the Hand Hygiene Monitoring Task Force which observed staffs compliance with JACHO’s #7 National Safety Goal. Ms Moran assisted with obtaining Nursing personnel’s biographies necessary for the Magnet Status application.

Lorrianne M. DeLeo, RN, BSN, a staff RN on 4B Telemetry unit at Torresdale campus has received level III recognition. Ms DeLeo had participated at the Community Health Fair where she had created two posters on the topic of diabetes. One illustrated general daily diabetes care and the other the complications of diabetes. Ms DeLeo is a member of the Clinical Practice and Information Management council where she relays information to her peers and keeps them abreast of any policy changes. She also serves as a preceptor for her unit.

Louise J. Walek, RNC, an Obstetrical nurse at Torresdale campus has been awarded Level III recognition. Ms Walek has participated in developing a maternal child folder for Frankford Hospitals in Krames on Demand Intranet program. She had also created a poster presentation educating the staff on Krames on Demand with unit specific material. Ms Walek has also assisted in revision and implementation of OB department policies.

Jeannine Keenan, RN, BSN, CCRN, a staff RN in the Intensive Care unit at Frankford campus has received Level III recognition. Ms Keenan had participated at the Community Health Fair where she had developed a presentation on the topic of alcoholism. As a Magnet Champion she works towards the Nursing Department’s aspirations for Magnet Status. She also serves as a preceptor for her unit.

Loretta Beshel, RN, CCRN, a staff RN in the Intensive Care Unit at theTorresdale campus she has been awarded level III recognition. Ms Beshel is a member of the PI council. She also participates on the Wound Care committee where she inservices nursing staff on updated treatments and protocols and participates in quarterly wound prevalence studies. She provided wound care inservices throughout the entire Torresdale campus to evening shift for the purpose of increasing compliance with hospital policy. She also serves as a preceptor for her unit.

Alice Joseph, RN, CCRN, a staff RN on One-South at the Bucks campus has been awarded Level III recognition. Ms Joseph ha created a poster presentation on Patient Controlled Analgesia for the purpose of maintaining safe administration of substance abuse agents. Ms Joseph has participated in the Frankford Hospitals Community Fair held at the Bucks campus; she assisted with monitoring vital signs and weights and provided education on how to control your weight. She is also serves as a preceptor for her unit.

Christine Meltz, RNC, BC, a staff RN in the Observation unit at Torresdale has been awarded Level III recognition. Ms Meltz has participated in the Frankford Hospitals Community Fair by providing information on controlling hypertension and cholesterol levels. She had also participated in the Health Fair at the villages of Flowers Mill in Langhorne by providing stroke assessment screening, blood pressure screening and assisted the podiatry resident with diabetic foot care assessment and education. She is also a preceptor for her unit.

Susanne Mousley, RNC, BC, is a staff RN on One-South at the Bucks campus she has received level III recognition. Ms Mousley has participated in the Frankford Hospitals Community Fair by providing information on maintaining a healthy weight and explained potential problems of weight gain and edema. She had developed a CHF poster presentation designed to give the general public, patients, and nursing staff knowledge of the disease and its treatment. Ms Mousley serves as a preceptor for her unit.

Lisa Turco, RNC, CPCE, a resent staff RN in the Pain Management Center and with a tenure history in the Obstetrical department, she has been awarded Level III recognition. As a member of the Clinical Practice committee Ms Turco worked on improving nursing practice and policies in the Obstetrical Department. Ms Turco also participated in the PI committee where she developed and implemented three projects related to Pain Management, Intervention and documentation for the prevention of DVT and the improvement of childbirth education. She had also participated at the Community Health Fair by providing a poster presentation. Ms Turco is a preceptor for new RN staff.

Vikki Notaro, RNC, a staff RN on One-South at the Bucks campus has been awarded Level III recognition. Ms Notaro is a member of the Clinical Practice and Information Management Council where she participates in decision making and relays information to her peers. She has also volunteered at the Frankford Hospitals Health Fair at the Flowers Mill 55 + community where she shared information on health problems associated with increasing age and motivated the public on seeking professional health care. Ms Notaro has also created a poster presentation on Nursing Responsibilities during a Code 6 emergency situation.

Mary Jo Marino-Hertzog, RN, CAPA, an experienced SPU/PACU nurse recently assigned to the Endoscopy procedure area has been awarded Level III recognition. As a Lecturer for the Trauma Course Ms Marino-Hertzog has presented both Facial Trauma and Peri-Anesthesia care. Ms Marino-Hertzog is also a member of the Resource Management and Professional Development council where she addresses issues brought before the council by nursing staff. She is a Magnet Champion for her unit where she assists the Nursing Department in its goal to Magnet Status.

Karen Schneider, RN, CNOR, an experienced operating room nurse at the Torresdale campus SPU has received Level III recognition. Ms Schneider participated as a Med-Ware Super user assisting the staff with learning the new computer program. She became a CPR Instructor in order to support her co-workers with job requirement compliance and as a Magnet Champion she works towards the Nursing Department’s goal for Magnet Status.

Jill Lightkep, RNC, BSN, is a staff RN on 4B Telemetry at the Torresdale campus she has been awarded Level III recognition. Ms Lightkep participated in the 2005 Community Fair by providing information on a poster presentation and through handouts on the topic of Atrial Fibrillation. As a member of the Medication Safety Committee she reviews request for stock medications, medication errors and discuss compliance with JCAHO standards. She also serves as a preceptor on her unit.

Theresa Soltis, RN, BC, BSN, is a staff RN on 4B Telemetry at the Torresdale campus she has been awarded Level III recognition. Ms Soltis participated in the 2005 Community Fair where she designed a poster presentation to educate the public about all their diabetic concerns. As a member of the Clinical Practice and Information Management council she relays information to her peers and keeps them abreast of any policy changes. She also serves as a preceptor on her unit.

Agnes Garden, RN, CCRN, a staff nurse in the Intensive Care unit at Frankford campus was awarded Level III recognition. Ms Garden participated in the 2005 Community Fair by presenting the topic the risk of stroke, its signs and symptoms and treatment. She assisted with the VAP research project designed to decrease the risk of pneumonia in ventilated patients. She also serves as a preceptor on her unit.

Stephanie Ming, RN, BSN, a staff RN in the Intensive Care unit at Torresdale campus was awarded Level III recognition. Ms Ming is a member of the Wound Care committee where she inservices nursing staff on updated treatments and protocols and participates in quarterly wound prevalence studies by assisting with data collection. She also serves as preceptor for her unit.

Christine Noel McKeever, RN, BSN, CPAN, an experienced PACU Nurse at the Torresdale campus has been awarded Level IV recognition. Ms McKeever presented a power point presentation and lecture at the Stroke Conference designed to increase the knowledge of the RN by providing guidelines for neurological assessment. As an Educator for the Critical care course Ms McKeever has developed a power point presentation on the topic of Post Anesthesia Complications. Ms McKeever is an active member of the PI Council for the Nursing Department. She also serves as a preceptor on her unit.

Susan M. Staffieri, RNC, a staff RN on One-South at Bucks campus has been awarded Level III recognition. Ms Staffieri participated in the 2005 Community Fair where she provided handouts discussing management of CHF. She had also developed a poster Presentation on the topic of Diabetes discussing signs and symptoms, complications and treatment. Ms Staffieri serves as a preceptor on her unit.

Amanda Hueston, RN, a staff RN on 4B at the Torresdale unit has been awarded Level I recognition. Ms Hueston is a member of the Wound Care committee and a PI council member where she helped to develop the wound care documentation and treatment cards to be handed out to staff RN’s to be kept as a resource. She is also a preceptor for her unit.

Dolores Zongolowicz, RN, BSN, CCRN, WOCN, a staff RN in the Intensive Care unit at Frankford campus has been awarded Level IV recognition. Ms Zongolowicz has been an active member of the Ethics committee for more than ten years; she serves as a resource person to staff regarding end of life issues. She also participates on the Wound Care committee responsible for quarterly prevalence studies and staff education. She had developed an extensive wound care education project which she provided to evening shift and weekend staff for the purpose of increasing compliance with hospital policy. In addition, Ms Zongolowicz is a member of the Nursing Research Committee where she has assisted with the VAP project and presentation.

Nancy M. Schwartz, RNC, is a staff RN in the Intensive Care unit at Frankford campus; she has received Level II recognition. Ms Schwartz is a member of the Resource Management and Professional Development council where she addresses issues brought before the council by nursing staff. Kristy J. Percell, RNC, is a staff RN on the 4B Telemetry unit at the Torresdale campus; she has been awarded level III recognition . Ms Percell is a member of the Wound Care Committee responsible for quarterly prevalence studies and staff education. She is on the PI council where she is spokesperson for her unit providing information related to policy updates . Ms Percell is also a preceptor for her unit.
