"Wall-Breaking" Ceremony Kicks-Off
Construction at Aria Health-Frankford
Construction will double capacity at lower Northeast Philadelphia’s only Emergency Department.
Today, legislators and Aria Health senior leadership took commemorative sledgehammer swings, signaling the beginning of construction of the new Emergency Department at Aria Health’s Frankford Campus.
“Aria-Frankford currently operates lower Northeast Philadelphia’s only Emergency Department,” said John Quinn, Executive Director of Aria Health’s Frankford Campus. “Doubling its size and the number of patient rooms is a significant investment not only in our hospital campus, but also in the broader community.”
The $12.1 million renovation project, which was funded in part by the Commonwealth Redevelopment Capital Assistance Program, will double the Emergency Department’s capacity (from 17-34 beds), while adding 8,000 square feet of space enabling it to serve approximately 60,000 patients annually.
“Although a significant amount of work will occur in and around the Emergency Department over the next few years, patients and guests will receive the same quality care that they have in the past,” said Quinn.
As part of this expansion, Aria’s Physical Therapy and Outpatient Therapy Departments have been expanded and relocated to the Wakeling Building, across the street from the hospital. A ribbon-cutting ceremony commemorating their opening was held immediately following the wall-breaking festivities.
Aria Health is the largest healthcare provider in Northeast Philadelphia and Lower Bucks County. With three leading-edge community hospitals and a strong network of outpatient centers and primary care physicians, Aria upholds a longstanding tradition of bringing advanced medicine and personal care to the many communities it serves.
