Dedicated Expertise in Cancers Specific to Women

Cancer can be a frightening word that patients don't want to hear. But this understandable response makes it all the more essential to directly address and combat this disease, using prevention and screening as a first line of effort.  Just as important is being aggressive in responding to cancer when it occurs, seeking care from an experienced, specialized group so that patients will feel that they have placed themselves in the best available hands when cancer treatment is needed.

Patients in Aria's center
are on a lifetime program of
risk assessment and screening
for cancer.

Some cancers, of course, are specific to women, including breast cancer and gynecologic cancers such as cervical or uterine cancer.  Others are of roughly equal prevalence among women and men, including lung cancer and colorectal cancer.

First, the staff of Aria's Center for Gynecology & Women's Health provides the women-focused primary care that will keep patients on top of prevention, risk assessment, and screening for these conditions.  Based on a woman's medical history, age, and other factors, the staff helps her maintain an appropriate preventive examination and testing schedule, including for such needs as mammography and colonoscopy.

Cancer is always easier to treat if detected early.  That's where regular care through Aria's women's center can make such a difference –– sometimes all the difference, in terms of vigilance for cancer and outcome in treatment from it.

The staff works closely with the many specialists who are part of Aria's respected Cancer Center.  The radiology, laboratory, and other diagnostic services at Aria Health also offer the highest quality studies. As a patient at Aria's women's center, a woman knows that results of her screening studies or other tests will be conducted directly by the center's staff or sent directly to the center for follow-up, including for such tests as cervical biopsy, cystoscopy, dilation and curettage (D&C), Pap testing, endometrial biopsy, pelvic ultrasound, and hysteroscopy.

The Center for Gynecology & Women's Health helps its patients:

  • manage any screening or testing that they may need;
  • interpret results and needs for further care;
  • and make the best treatment decisions.

As the staff does this, it can serve as a woman's continued source for your broader healthcare needs.  The center's healthcare providers understand the factors and issues surrounding cancer in women, and these caring professionals counsel and assist their patients in stepping through the often complex, cancer-care experience.  A care provider at the center serves as a facilitator and advocate for each patient's needs, helping her to navigate the diagnostic and treatment process involved in cancer care.
